Home Security Systems: What You Need to Know

Your home’s best safety and security relies on the efforts you make in securing it to the nine, the most important element that you can implement to guard against intrusions and burglaries is by employing one of the most acclaimed home security systems.

Although there are a great number of home security system companies that offer their software, surveillance, and equipment- sometimes it is best if you purchase a do it yourself home security system that works most efficiently and is provided at a lower-rated, flat price.
To help you to learn about the different home security systems offered and available to you, we have comprised this in-depth post to guide you through the process, to better educate you on the types, options, and products available out there right now that you can use to secure, safe-guard, and protect your home in the most optimized manner.

Home Security Systems: Your Options

First. Beware When Solicited for Home Security from ADT Rep
There is a new scam that is occurring among the most vulnerable of home-owners involving phone-based solicitation of ADT home security systems.
This implies that scammers and phone callers are calling at whim and offering a free consult about their home security services.

However, it is not ADT representatives making these calls it is cons, scammers who are preying on coercing you to leave your home, tracking you, so that they can come in your home- invade it, rob you blind, and walk away without consequence.

Guard Dogs For a Home Security System- Effective or Limited?

The old-fashioned home security option that has almost become extinct is employing a guard dog or a number of guard dogs to notify you when your home is being burglarized or an intruder is near. This has its many benefits, but it far from being full proof!

Dogs are great pets, and their bark is both a good and a bad thing. You can have a guard dog that is only trained to bark when an intruder approaches or attempts to approach your house. But what happens when the dog is not trained, and just barks all the time? This could annoy you and your close neighbors.

On another note, dogs are high-maintenance and training for them does not come cheap! And you also take the risk that the dog is aggressive. If it bites someone that you do not want it to, you could be in big trouble with the law, and the dog could be put down. And these days, burglars are smarter than ever- a dog is hardly a distraction for them when they really want to break in your home and steal your priceless belongings.

The Pros and Cons of Home Security Systems

The rapidly increasing rates of crime and demand for security equipment for home protection has risen ten-fold over the last decade. But, in this day and age many people, instead of selecting a home security service provider are choosing and installing their own home security systems that can be purchased online.
In order to supply with you all the information you need when shopping for the best alternative to protect your home, we have come up with a brief pros and cons list of selecting this convenient route of implementing superior protection to your home:

Pros:
  • Police are dispatched should someone break into your home.  How it works: you get a phone call when the alarm system is set off.  If you don’t answer the phone, provide a security code, and tell them you are okay, they will immediately send someone out to your home.
  • The alarm itself often frightens away burglars.  When my subdivision was new, we had a rash of burglaries.  My alarm was set off several times when I was not at home, and the back door was found broken into but nothing was ever missing.  We believe the deafening alarm scared them away.
  • If you have the chime on, you are alerted whenever anyone (especially children) enter and exit the home.  This is especially good when you have small children in the home, because it helps to know whenever the doors in your home open or close.
Cons:
  • You can get a false sense of security, since some burglars will still enter the home with an alarm on. Not all burglars will be scared away.  There are professional criminals who know how to get in, grab what they want, and get out before the police ever arrive.
  • You have to remember to set the alarm in order for it to work.  I have woken up many nights to not only find the alarm off, but also the garage door open.  If you fall asleep before locking up the house and setting the alarm, the home security system will not do you any good.
  • Your local police force will charge you for “false alarms.”   Any time they come out to your home to find no burglar there and no obvious signs of forced entry, it will be considered a false alarm.  So basically, you can be fined if your security alarm was successful in scaring the intruder away!

Different Types of Home Security Systems and What They Offer

There are 2 basic types of home security alarms:
  • Infrared sensors that are used to detect movement inside the home.
  • Perimeter protection that senses whenever someone tries to come into your home through the doors and windows.

Perimeter alarms are more popular these days because they have a lower rate of false alarms than the movement detectors inside the home do.
In an existing home, a wireless security system is probably your best bet.  The price is a little more than a hardwired system that is built into a new home, but the cost of running the wires can be quite expensive.

Wireless or Cellular?

Though wireless and cellular home alarm systems work in a similar way, there are a few big differences that set them apart. Indeed, understanding the differences between the two is very important to the overall safety and security of your home.
Wireless is simply a certain method of communication between an alarm’s sensor and control panel while cellular is the name for a certain type of wireless communication network. While wireless has its security benefits, it is not capable of providing a dedicated communication line for security like cellular is.

Home Security Equipment Warranties

It is essential to select a home security system product with a great warranty on their equipment. Warranty types vary widely from brand to brand. Some offer no warranty at all while others offer lifetime warranties on their equipment.
Sure, a lifetime warranty sounds great, but you need to read the fine print. Many less than reputable companies line their lifetime warranties with a number of conditions that can void your warranty. This is why it is so important to read everything related to a home alarm system’s warranty before making your final decision.

DIY Home Security Systems: Bottom Line

The benefits of DIY security systems are numerous. They help the security providers by saving money on overhead and increasing the efficiency of their distribution networks. DIY installation allows consumers like you more opportunities to fine-tune your system. Setting up your home security system yourself can actually make your home more secure. It also saves you money both upfront and in the long run as well.

A 5-Minute Gratitude Practice: Focus on the Good by Tapping into Your Senses

Waking up this morning, I glanced at my cell phone and noticed the weather app ominously predicting many days of snow and icy temperatures ahead. Brrr! I could feel the chill of dark thoughts starting to gather. I could feel my body creak with cold and aging. Life’s challenges were seemingly everywhere. And yet…I was smiling. I was cheerful. I was grateful. What? Was I crazy? As one of my New Year’s resolutions, I’d made a point of tuning my awareness toward appreciation of life’s small delights. I was curious about what I would discover if I focused intentionally on the things that I appreciated. This morning, as I let wakefulness peel the dark back, I could smell my neighbor’s coffee brewing. The snow outside gently buffered the sounds of the world. I could sense my husband’s warm weight in the bed. I took a long moment to enjoy the muted winter light edging in around the slats of the window blinds. There was nothing particularly special going on, but I noticed tha

What is mindfulness?

E ver heard someone say “You are here, but you’re just not here”? Pretty confusing eh, but there’s a lot of truth in it. People tend to dwell so much on the past or worry so bad about the future to such extent that they lose the opportunity to live and savor the present. By making a fuss about what cannot be changed and those that are yet to come the “now” becomes nothing but a frustration and obsession to gain control over yesterday and tomorrow. Mindfulness has a lot to do with living in the present. It enables one to live at peace with what was was and what will be and simply enjoy the current moment.   Mindfulness is a concept incorporated in both Eastern and Western cultures. It came from the Indian word “sati” which means awareness, attention and remembering. These three are completely different yet highly associated with one another. Awareness enables you to be conscious about what’s happening. Attention, on the other hand, is a more centralized version of awa

Jazzpunk Is A Stylish, Joke-Fueled Adventure Game Like No Other

Have you ever encountered something really funny in the moment, but later, when you tried to explain it to friends, it fell flat? Not because it wasn’t hilarious. It was. But rendered in words, the scenario just loses its comedic weight. That’s what I want to avoid doing with this review, so I’m going to hold off on spoiling the jokes and just focus on what makes Jazzpunk such a uniquely designed piece of comedic video game gold. Jazzpunk is a pop art collage masquerading as a spy thriller, a jumble of nonsensical Dadaist aesthetics interwoven with modern day tech jokes, all not-so-neatly contained within the silly, cyberpunk sandbox within which its absurd, special agent shenanigans take place. It’s all very chaotic, and I loved every second of it. Set in some kind of alternate history, Cold War-era retrofuture, you play a possibly-cybernetic Agent Polyblank who must carry out a series of whimsical surveillance and infiltration missions in a possibly-virtual realit
